Driver License Testing

Driver license testing, both written and driving tests, end at 3:30 p.m. daily and appointments are required. Individuals taking the written test have up to one hour to test.

If under 18 years of age, the driver must have held a valid driver permit for one year without any violations prior to taking the road test and must have a parent/guardian present. 

If taking a driving test, please be sure you are familiar with the vehicle you will be testing in. 

Vehicle requirements: 

  • Valid license plate
  • Valid vehicle registration
  • Proof of valid Personal Injury Protection and Property Liability Insurance
  • Pass a vehicle safety inspection. The vehicle must be clean and have features in working order including: horn, headlights, brake lights and turn signals. The windshield must also be free of cracks. 
  • Have operable seatbelts (exception: cars manufactured prior to 1968 and trucks manufactured prior to 1972)

 

Document requirements: (If not already in possession of a valid, Real ID compliant Florida drivers permit the following are required. If address has changed since obtaining permit, any address change documents are required to show proof of new address.)

  • Primary Identification- (original documents only photocopies cannot be accepted.) U.S. birth certificate; valid U.S. passport or passport card; Consular Report of Birth Abroad, Certificate of Naturalization (form N-550 0r N-570; or Certificate of Citizenship (form N-560 or N-561)
  • Name change documents (if applicable)- marriage certificates, court orders or divorce decrees must be provided to link the name on the primary identification to the name on the driver license or ID card. If a valid U.S. passport has the customer's current name, they are not required to present additional name change documents. 
  • Proof of Social Security- social security card with customer's current name, typed W-2 form, SSA-1099, or any typed 1099. 
  • Residential address: Two documents showing residential address.

Who must take a Class E knowledge exam?

  • Individuals who downgraded to an ID card for one year or more due to a sanction
  • Individuals with a Florida license expired for one year or more
  • Out-of-State license holder expired for one year or more
  • Applicants who did not obtain a Class E license within one year of passing the Class E knowledge exam

 

If you are in need of an oral interpretation driver license test, medical driver license test, Hazmat or CDL endorsement, these services are provided by appointment only in our Panama City office located at 850 W. 11th Street in the Government Services Center. Appointments must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. 

 

TESTING TRANSLATION

Please be aware that our office does not provide translation services for road tests. If you need translation, you must provide a translator. For those taking written tests, several languages are available through our computer testing system. An oral interpretation driver's license test can be provided by appointment only on Tuesdays in our Panama City office and must be scheduled 24 hours in advance.
